Works Suite 2000: Cannot Reinstall Works Suite After You Uninstall Works Suite (306813)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Works Suite 2000, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Setup could not move Calendar Data Files C:/Program Files/mswkscal.wcd

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following files are duplicated on the system:
  • Mswkscal.wcd
  • Wkscalcat.data

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, rename the files. To do this, use the appropriate method.

Method 1: Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type mswkscal.wcd; wkscalcat.data.
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer.
  4. Click Find Now.
  5. When the search process is complete, right-click mswkscal.wcd, and then click Rename on the shortcut menu.
  6. In the box that appears, type mswkscal.old, and then press ENTER.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to rename wkscalcat.data to wkscalcat.old.
  8. Install Works Suite 2000.

Method 2: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition or Microsoft Windows 2000

  1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type mswkscal.wcd; wkscalcat.data
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer.
  4. Click Search now.
  5. When the search process is complete, right-click mswkscal.wcd, and then click Rename on the shortcut menu.
  6. In the box that appears, type mswkscal.old, and then press ENTER.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to rename wkscalcat.data to wkscalcat.old.
  8. Install Works Suite 2000.
