This article was previously published under Q306687

SYMPTOMS

The Web Proxy service may not start and may generate the following event in the System log. This occurs shortly after you reconfigure the certificates that are installed on the Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server-based computer.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Date: date
Time: time
User: N/A
Computer: computername
Description:
The Microsoft Web Proxy service terminated with service-specific error 2148081668.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the certificate that in use by the Web Proxy service has been moved or deleted.

To configure the certificates that are used by the Web Proxy service, open the properties for ISA Server, and then go to either the Outgoing Web Requests or Incoming Web Requests tab.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, restore the certificate that the Web Proxy service is configured to use. If restoring the certificate is not an option, follow these steps:
  1. In ISA Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC), right-click the ISA server, and then click Properties.
  2. On either the Incoming Web Requests or Outgoing Web Requests tab, select your listener, and then click Edit.
  3. Clear the Use a server certificate to authenticate to web clients check box.
  4. Start the Web Proxy service.
  5. Install the necessary certificate or certificates.
  6. In the Services MMC, restart the Microsoft ISA Server Control service to restart all the ISA services in the correct order.
  7. Close the ISA Management MMC, and then re-open it.
  8. Under your listener configuration, configure the certificates that you just installed.
