The following is the correct sequence for using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove, and then re-install Application Center 2000.

Remove Application Center 2000 from a Cluster Controller and Disband the Cluster

If the server from which you want to remove Application Center 2000 is a cluster controller, and you want to disband the cluster, follow these steps:
  1. Remove cluster members. Repeat the following steps for each cluster member:
    1. Open the Application Center MMC Snap-In
    2. Expand the Application Center tree to locate Members.
    3. Right-click the member that you want to remove.
    4. Click to select All Tasks.
    5. Click Remove Cluster Member.
    6. In the Confirm Remove dialog box, click OK.
    7. In the Server Authentication dialog box, type credentials with administrative rights to the server that you want to remove.
    8. Click OK.
  2. After you remove all of the cluster members from the cluster, remove the cluster controller by disbanding the cluster:
    1. On the Application Center tree, under Members, right-click the cluster controller.
    2. Click to select All Tasks.
    3. Click Disband Cluster.
    4. In the Confirm Remove dialog box, click OK.
  3. On each of the former cluster members, at a command prompt, go to the Application Center subdirectory, and then run the following command:

    ac cluster /clean

  4. At the confirmation prompt, type Y, and then press ENTER. All of the cluster information is removed from the server, and will not cause conflicts if you re-install Application Center 2000.
  5. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  6. In Add/Remove Programs, click to select Application Center 2000 SP1 on the list of currently installed programs.
  7. Click Change/Remove to remove Service Pack 1 for Application Center 2000.
  8. Click OK to confirm the removal of Application Center 2000 SP1.
  9. Click to select Application Center 2000.
  10. Click Remove to remove Application Center 2000.
  11. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes.
  12. Re-install Application Center 2000 by following the typical setup steps.
  13. Re-apply Service Pack 1 for Application Center 2000, if you require it.

Remove Application Center 2000 from a Cluster Controller and Do Not Disband the Cluster

If the server from which you want to remove Application Center 2000 is a cluster controller, and you do not want to disband the cluster, follow these steps:
  1. Assign a member server to become the new cluster controller. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the Application Center 2000 MMC Snap-in.
    2. Expand the Application Center tree to locate Members.
    3. Right-click the member server that you want to make the new cluster controller.
    4. Click to select All Tasks.
    5. Click Designate as Controller.
    6. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes. The original cluster controller is converted to a member server.

If the server from which you want to remove Application Center 2000 is a member server, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the member server from the cluster. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click the member that you want to remove.
    2. Click to select All Tasks.
    3. Click Remove Cluster Member.
    4. In the Confirm Remove dialog box, click OK.
    5. In the Server Authentication dialog box, type credentials for an account that has administrative rights to the server that you want to remove.
    6. Click OK.
