This article was previously published under Q306488
BUG #: 355153 (SHILOH_BUGS)
SYMPTOMS
You can embed SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine merge modules (.msm files) into a Windows Installer based setup application by creating your own .msi file.
After the installation of a product that includes the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine, if you attempt to reinstall the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine and the length of the Reinstall property that is specified by the installer exceeds approximately 500 characters, the reinstallation may fail.
If the custom installer uses an installation log file, the log reports an error message similar to:
Action start 11:57:11: DeferProperties.2D02443E_7002_4C0B_ABC9_EAB2C064397B.
MSI (s) (D4:60): Creating MSIHANDLE (99) of type 790542 for thread 1888
Action ended 11:57:11: DeferProperties.2D02443E_7002_4C0B_ABC9_EAB2C064397B. Return value 3.
