SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to browse the Internet by using America Online (AOL), you may receive an error message similar to the following:
WAOL caused an invalid page fault in module wininet.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if your TCP/IP network protocol is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps to remove and then reinstall your TCP/IP protocol:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Network.
  3. On the Configuration tab, click your TCP/IP protocol, and then click Properties.
  4. Write down the settings that are displayed on each tab in the TCP/IP Properties dialog box.
  5. Click Cancel, and then click Remove.
  6. Click OK. When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
  7. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  8. Double-click Network.
  9. On the Configuration tab, click Add.
  10. Click Protocol, and then click Add.
  11. In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft.
  12. In the Network Protocols box, click TCP/IP, and then click OK.
  13. On the Configuration tab, click your TCP/IP protocol, and then click Properties.
  14. Restore all the settings on each tab in the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, and then click OK.
  15. Click OK. When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
