SUMMARY

A Microsoft Office Index Filter is included in SharePoint Portal Server, Site Server and in versions of Indexing Services in Windows 2000 and Windows NT Server. This Office Index Filter cannot open and index Office documents that are password-protected with the Protection feature in Office programs.

This is by design.
