PPT2001: Netscape Navigator Draws All Slide Text in Upper-Left Corner (306226)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q306226

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation as a Web page, and then view the Web page in Netscape Navigator 4.7, all slide text appears in the upper-left corner of the slide.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you change the decimal separator for currencies from a period (.) to a comma (,). In this situation, PowerPoint writes the coordinates for the text in a format such as "0,04" and Netscape Navigator reads the coordinates as zero.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Service Release 1.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use the Numbers icon in Control Panel to set the decimal separator for a specific country. This allows you to format values for different currencies, such as the franc or pound.

For example, France uses the comma as a decimal separator and the period as the thousands separator. In France, the value "one thousand two hundred thirty-four point fifty-six" is written as 1.234,56.
