SYMPTOMS

When you add existing Web pages or files with a different encode setting to a Digital Dashboard project and open the pages or the files again, Japanese characters in the pages or the files may be garbled.

RESOLUTION

You must confirm the encode setting of the existing Web pages or whatever you want to add to the Digital Dashboard project.

To change the encode setting of the Web page in the Digital Dashboard project, select the appropriate encode from the list using the charset property in the property page of the file or the charset property in the property window.

In the Digital Dashboard project, Unicode(UTF-8) is used by default for Web pages. When you create a new Web page, the default setting is used. However, when you add the existing Web pages to the Digital Dashboard project, the default encode setting for the Web pages is used and as a result, characters may be garbled. Although some browsers recognize appropriate encode setting of each file, you must pay attention to the encode setting when you add files to the Digital Dashboard project.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. In Microsoft Word 2002, create a document that includes Japanese characters, and then save the document as a Web page (.htm file).
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office XP Developer, and then click Microsoft Development Environment.
  3. Create a new Digital Dashboard project.
  4. On the File menu, click Open, and then open the .htm file that you created in step 1.
  5. Save the Digital Dashboard project.
  6. Open the file that you opened in the step 4 in the browser.
Note that the Japanese characters in the file are garbled.
