Application Center 2000 node certificate information may be replaced during replication (306056)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Application Center 2000

This article was previously published under Q306056
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the metabase. Before you edit the metabase, verify that you have a backup copy that you can restore if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, see the "Configuration Backup/Restore" Help topic in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

SYMPTOMS

Certificates and certificate binding information that is stored in the metabase of an Application Center cluster node may be overwritten and invalid after replication occurs.

CAUSE

Application Center 2000 always replicates certificate binding information that is stored in the metabase, and selectively replicates certificates based on whether they were created with the No Export option.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Application Center 2000. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you edit the metabase incorrectly, you can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall any product that uses the metabase. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that result if you incorrectly edit the metabase can be solved. Edit the metabase at your own risk.

NOTE: Always back up the metabase before you edit it.

This fix prevents certificates or certificate binding information from replicating when a new metabase value called DriverFlags is present.

To enable the DriverFlags value, follow these steps:
  1. Obtain the Mdutil.exe tool from the Application Center 2000 support tools folder.
  2. Run the following command:

mdutil set WebReplication/Local/ReplicationResourceTypes/CAPI/DriverFlags 1 -attrib INHERIT

  3. Perform a cluster synchronization to ensure that this metabase property is enabled on all members, in case one of the members becomes a controller.
