IP Address Is Unknown and You Cannot Connect to the Computer for NetMeeting (306055)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to place a NetMeeting call, but you do not know the current Internet Protocol (IP) address for the computer that you are trying to call, no connection is established for the call.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the current IP address is required to establish a connection to the other computer. If the computer that you are trying to call has a dynamic IP address, the IP address can change each time it connects to the Internet.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, obtain the current IP address of the computer that you are trying to call, and then place the call. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. By telephone or by e-mail, ask the person that you are trying to contact to give you the correct IP address. To find the IP address, the other person needs to:
    1. Start NetMeeting on the computer that you are trying to reach, and then click Help.
    2. Click About Windows NetMeeting. The current IP address for the computer appears in the lower left corner of the About Windows NetMeeting box.
    3. Give you the IP address by telephone or by e-mail.
  2. At your own computer, place the NetMeeting call by typing the IP address in the list box at the top of the window, and then click the Place Call icon.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use MSN Messenger to send a NetMeeting invitation.
