"Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions' Smart HTML interpreter on this non-HTML page" error message when you try to perform a search in a FrontPage Web (306012)

When you attempt to perform a search in a Microsoft FrontPage Web, you may receive the following error message:

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- You create a folder in a Microsoft FrontPage Web.
- You create a Web page in that folder.
- You insert a Search Form component into that Web page.
- You convert the folder into a subweb of the original FrontPage Web.
- You attempt to perform a search by using the Search Form Web component.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft FrontPage 2000, and then open the Web that contains the newly created subweb.
- In the Folder List pane, double-click the new subweb.
The subweb is opened in a new Microsoft FrontPage window. - In the Folder List pane, double-click the Web page that contains the inserted Search Form component.
The page opens in the right pane of the FrontPage window. - On the File menu, click Save.
- On the Tools menu, click Recalculate Hyperlinks. The following message appears:
The Recalculate Hyperlinks command does the following:
- Repairs all hyperlinks in your Web
- Updates information for all FrontPage-based components,
including shared borders and navigation bars
- Synchronizes Web data, database information, and categories
This process may take several minutes. Do you wish to continue?
Click Yes. The hyperlinks are recalculated.
- Quit Microsoft FrontPage 2000.
