SUMMARY

This article describes the support boundaries for applications that are repackaged into the Windows Installer (.msi) format. Repackaging is defined as the conversion of a legacy installation into Windows Installer (.msi) package format. You should adhere to these support boundaries when you support repackaged applications.

MORE INFORMATION

The support boundaries for issues that are related to repackaging are as follows:
  • Support Professionals can review a verbose log file and identify the failure point in the setup. When the customer knows the failure point, the customer can troubleshoot that area of the .msi installation.
  • Support Professionals can run validation on the .msi package. Subsequently, the Support Professional can send the report that lists what internal consistency evaluator (ICE) errors are found to the customer.

It is recommended that the customer fix all the errors that are contained in the report. The Windows Installer Help file (Msi.chm) contains the reference information about all ICE errors.
All other requests about repackaged applications are not supported.
