This article was previously published under Q305933 SYMPTOMS
When your computer resumes from standby, Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices on all ports may not be properly detected and re-enumerated. Additionally, if you exchange one device for another while your computer is on standby, the new device may not work properly after your computer resumes.
This problem is less likely to occur with devices that are attached to the USB host controller root hub. You can examine how your devices are attached by using Device Manager (click Devices by Connection on the View menu, and then expand the PCI Bus/USB Host Controller object hierarchy). You can start Device Manager from the Hardware tab in the System tool in Control Panel.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the USB hub driver (Usbhub.sys) does not account for ports that are relatively slow to assert themselves on the USB bus during resume operations.
