Windows 2000 Cannot Open Windows XP .blg Log Files (305858)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
This article was previously published under Q305858 SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to open a Windows XP binary performance log (.blg) file in Windows 2000, you receive the following error message:
System Monitor Control
Data source path to .blg file is either invalid or cannot be found. System message: The specified log file type has not been installed on this system.
CAUSE
Even though the file name extension is the same, the format of .blg files is changed in Windows XP. This new format cannot be read by System Monitor in Windows 2000.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use either of the following methods:
- Use the Relog.exe command-line tool to convert the .blg file from the Windows XP format to a format that Windows 2000 System Monitor can read (such as the .tsv or .csv format).
- Open the log on a Windows XP-based computer.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
