ACPI Sleep Button Does Not Wake Computer (305826)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q305826 SYMPTOMS
If your Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) compliant computer entered Standby mode automatically, it may not resume from Standby mode when you press the ACPI SLEEP button. Typically, the hard disk spins up, and then immediately spins down.
Notes- After this problem occurs, moving the mouse typically wakes the computer.
- When the problem occurs, pressing the ACPI SLEEP button puts the computer into the S1 sleeping state (which it is already in), instead of waking it up, and this is why the hard disk spins up and down.
CAUSE
When the system automatically enters Standby mode, information that is used to interpret the action to take when the ACPI SLEEP button is pressed is not saved.
