SMS: Access Violation with the Preinst During /DELSITE Command (305693)

SYMPTOMS

The current version of the Preinst.exe utility (Build 1519) shipped with the SMS 2.0 Recovery Tools can access violate during the /DELSITE operation.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the version of Preinst.exe (build 1250) that is included in the Microsoft BackOffice Resource Kit 4.5.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 2.0 Recovery Tools.
