How to set up server-side settings to use e-mail features on forms with FrontPage 2002 (305675)

SUMMARY

Microsoft FrontPage 2002 supports sending form results in e-mail. On a server running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), you must do the following:

• Configure the FrontPage Server Extensions to deliver the e-mail to an e-mail transport.

• Configure the form to send results to e-mail.

This article describes how to configure the FrontPage Server Extensions and the form.

Setting up Your E-mail Transport

To send form results to an e-mail host, the FrontPage Server Extensions require a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server. FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions do not support any other form of e-mail server software.

To send e-mail from IIS to an e-mail transport, configure the FrontPage Server Extensions in the IIS Management Console on the Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000 server that is running IIS. Use the appropriate method for your situation.

To Configure All Sites to Use the same Information

1. Start Internet Services Manager. To do this, follow the steps for your version of IIS:
   • For IIS 5.0:
     1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Administrative Tools.
     2. Click Internet Services Manager.
   • For IIS 4.0:
     1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack.
     2. Click Microsoft Internet Information Server.
     3. Click Internet Service Manager.
2. Right-click the machine name, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
3. Click the Server Extensions 2002 tab.
4. Click Settings.
5. On the Set Installation Defaults Web page, go to the Mail Settings section, and then follow these steps:
   1. In the SMTP mail server box, type the name of the SMTP mail server you want to use.
   2. In the From address box, type the address you want to use as the From address for the SMTP server.
   3. In the Reply-to address box, type the address you want to use when a visitor to your site replies to an e-mail message.
   4. Click Submit.

To Configure Settings for an Individual Virtual Server

1. Start Internet Services Manager. To do this, follow the steps for your version of IIS:
   • For IIS 5.0:
     1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Administrative Tools.
     2. Click Internet Services Manager.
   • For IIS 4.0:
     1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack.
     2. Click Microsoft Internet Information Server.
     3. Click Internet Service Manager.
2. Right-click the virtual server.
3. Click the Server Extensions 2002 tab.
4. Click Settings.
5. On the Change Configuration Settings Web page, go to the Mail Settings section and then perform the following steps:
   1. In the SMTP mail server box, type the name of the SMTP mail server you want to use.
   2. In the From address box, type the address you want to use as the From address for the SMTP server.
   3. In the Reply-to address box, type the address you want to use when a visitor to your site replies to an e-mail message.
   4. Click Submit.

NOTE: You can also configure the default settings by browsing to the FrontPage Administration Site and clicking Set installation defaults. Or, you can configure the default settings of an individual virtual server by browsing to the FrontPage Administration Site, clicking Administration for the virtual server and then clicking Change Configuration Settings. back to the top

Setting up the Form

After you configure the SMTP settings, configure a Web page to send the form results by using e-mail. To do this, follow these steps:

1. In FrontPage 2002, open a Web site on the server you just configured.
2. Create a new page. Insert a simple form by pointing to Form on the Insert menu, and then clicking Textbox.
3. Right-click the form (click inside the dashed border), and then click Form Properties on the menu that appears.
4. In the E-mail address box, type your e-mail address.
5. Click OK.
6. On the File menu, click Save.
