The F1 Key in HyperTerminal Does Not Work as Expected After You Upgrade to Windows Me (305672)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q305672

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the F1 key in HyperTerminal may not work as it did before the upgrade.

For example, when you are connected to a remote computer and you press the F1 key, the HyperTerminal Help dialog box is displayed instead of the expected control sequence being sent.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because of changes in the Windows Me implementation of HyperTerminal. As a result, the functionality of the F1 key has changed, and it may not work as it does in Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).

RESOLUTION

HyperTerminal is provided by Hilgraeve Inc., from whom Microsoft licenses and implements HyperTerminal. Upgrades to HyperTerminal and more full-featured products are available from Hilgraeve.
