Error Message: <Program> Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Vct32150.dll (305663)

RESOLUTION

To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Step 1: Determine the Source of the Vct32150.dll File

To determine whether the Vct32150.dll file is from a Microsoft product or from a third-party program, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type Vct32150.dll.
3. In the Look in box, click Local Disk (C:), and then click Search Now.
4. In the Search Results list, right-click Vct32150.dll, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu that appears.
   
   The VCT32150.DLL Properties dialog box is displayed.
5. On the Version tab, note the number that appears next to File version.
   • The Vct32150.dll file version 1.5.0.39 is in included with the following Microsoft products:

     Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0
     Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01
     Microsoft Windows 95 OSR 2.5
     Microsoft Windows 98

   • Vct32150.dll files with a version number other than 1.5.0.39 may be included with other third-party programs, such as the following:

     Rainbow Six
     Carbon Copy 32

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to determine the version of each Vct32150.dll file that is displayed in the search results.

Step 2: Rename or Replace the Vct32150.dll File

Use one of the following methods, as appropriate, for each Vct32150.dll file that is found in step 1.

Method 1: Vct32150.dll Version 1.5.0.39

Rename this file as Vct32150.old, and then extract a new copy from your original Microsoft Windows CD-ROM. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type vct32150.dll.
3. In the Look In box, click Local Disk (C:), and then click Search Now.
   
   The file may be located in the C:\Windows\Systems folder.
4. In the Search Results list, right-click Vct32150.dll, and then click Rename.
5. Type vct32150.old, and then press ENTER.
6. Close the Search Results window.

If you are unable to rename the file from within Windows, restart your computer to a command prompt, and then rename the file. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start your computer to a command prompt.
   • In Windows 98, press and hold down the CTRL key after your computer completes the Power On Self Test (POST), and then select Command Prompt Only on the Microsoft Windows 98 Startup menu.
   • In Windows Millennium Edition (Me), insert your Windows Me Startup disk into your computer's floppy disk drive, and then restart your computer.
     
     If you do not have a Windows Me Startup disk, browse to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

     At the Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition Startup menu, select Minimal Boot, type c: at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
   
   
2. At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:

   cd \Windows\System

   NOTE: If the file is not in the C:\Windows\System folder, type the following at the command prompt to locate the file:

   dir vct32150.dll /s/a

3. Type the following line, and then press ENTER:

   rename vct32150.dll vct32150.old

Extract a new copy of the file from your original Windows CD-ROM. For instructions about how to do this, browse to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Method 2: Vct32150.dll Files Other Than Version 1.5.0.39

Rename this file as Vct32150.old. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type vct32150.dll.
3. In the Look In box, click Local Disk (C:), and then click Search Now.
   
   The file may be located in the C:\Windows\Systems folder.
4. In the Search Results list, right-click Vct32150.dll, and then click Rename.
5. Type vct32150.old, and then press ENTER.
6. Close the Search Results window.

If you are unable to rename the file from within Windows, restart your computer to a command prompt, and then rename the file. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start your computer to a command prompt.

   rename vct32150.dll vct32150.old

NOTE: If this file is required to run your third-party program, you may need to reinstall that program or contact the program vendor for an updated file.
