PRJ98: "Fatal Exception" Error Message When You Try to Open a Microsoft Project File (305641)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a Microsoft Project 98 file, you may receive one or more error messages similar to the following:
Fatal Exception 0E at 0028:CC4D7E3A

-or-

Fatal Exception 0D at 16CF:0137759C

-or-

Fatal Exception 0D at 0246:013747FB

-or-

Microsoft Project cannot access Project file name.
  1. File is already open.
  2. File already exists by that same name.
  3. Trying to save file in a Read Only directory.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • The Microsoft Project 98 file is located on a Novell server.

    -and-
  • You try to open the Microsoft Project 98 file on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer.
The behavior is caused by an issue with the Novell Client 3.21 for Windows 95 and Windows 98 (CLIENT32.NLM).

RESOLUTION
