To resolve this problem, use the following two
methods to configure Outlook 2002 to use polling instead of UDP to receive new
e-mail notifications:
- Apply the associated hotfix to the computer that is running
Outlook 2002.
- Manually add registry entries.
How to Use the Hotfix
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only
intended to correct the problem described in this article and should be applied
only to systems experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive
additional testing at a later time, to further ensure product quality.
Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Product Name service pack that contains
this fix.

How to Manually Add Registry Entries

To add the registry values to the computer that
is running Outlook 2002, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type Regedt32.exe, and then click OK.
- Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\
- On the Edit menu, click Add Key, and then add the following registry key:Key Name: RPC
Class: None
- Click OK.
- Locate the following key in the registry:

- On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:Value Name: ForcePolling
