Picture It! Photopremium 2001 Does Not Recognize Web Cameras (305486)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Picture It! Photo 2001 1.0, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows XP
This article was previously published under Q305486 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Picture It! PhotoPremium 2001 cannot recognize a USB Web camera as a device that can capture still images. USB Web cameras do not register as a scanner or a digital camera, and if you try to capture an image, you may receive the following error message:
No digital camera was found
CAUSE
Picture It! PhotoPremium 2001 doesn't recognize Web cameras that use the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) drivers that are included with Windows
XP.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, note that Web cameras that have a TWAIN compatibility layer are recognized by Picture It! PhotoPremium 2001, the Scanner and Camera Wizard, and Microsoft Paint. To use your camera with Picture It! PhotoPremium 2001, you must obtain and install the most current drivers from the manufacturer of your camera.
NOTE: Not all manufacturer-supplied drivers support the TWAIN compatibility layer. Web cameras that have drivers that use the TWAIN compatibility layer have the word "TWAIN" after the camera model in Picture It 2001!. To obtain pictures with a Web camera that uses WIA drivers
and does not have a driver that supports the TWAIN compatibility layer, use the Scanner and Camera Wizard or Microsoft Paint.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Picture It! PhotoPremium 2001 only looks for digital still image cameras and scanners when it enumerates devices.
