Unexpected Mouse Behavior During a Remote Assistance Session (305405)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
This article was previously published under Q305405 SYMPTOMS
When you use Remote Assistance to take control of another computer, conflicting mouse-orientation settings between the two computers may cause the mouse to behave unexpectedly.
For example, the person taking control may have the mouse configured for right-handed orientation, but the computer that he or she is taking control of is configured for left-handed orientation, or vice-versa. These conflicting orientation settings can result in the functionality of the right and left mouse buttons being reversed.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Windows XP does not automatically translate mouse orientation during a Remote Assistance session.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, the person connecting should acknowledge the mouse orientation of the computer that he or she intends to control remotely. Or, both parties to the Remote Assistance session should agree on a mouse orientation and configure their respective systems accordingly.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
