Scanner and Camera Wizard Continues to Show Pictures After You Delete Them from a Serial Camera (305350)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q305350

SYMPTOMS

Pictures that you delete from a serial camera continue to show up in the Scanner and Camera Wizard after you delete them.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because there is a lag time before the Scanner and Camera Wizard can update its content from devices that do not support change notification. Therefore, the Scanner and Camera Wizard does not reflect the fact that you have deleted pictures from, or shot new pictures on, a serial camera for up to 30 minutes after the action is performed.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, either wait for the Scanner and Camera Wizard to poll the serial device for changes (which takes between 2 and 30 minutes), or restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When Windows XP receives information from a serial device, it caches it. The Scanner and Camera Wizard, along with other Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) programs (such as Microsoft Paint or Microsoft Office XP), does not poll serial devices for changes for up to 30 minutes or until the computer is restarted.

This behavior is known to occur with any of the following serial cameras:
  • FujiFilm DX-5
  • FujiFilm DX-7
  • FujiFilm DX-9
  • FujiFilm MX-700
  • FujiFilm DS-300
  • Sanyo VPC-G200
  • Sanyo VPC-X300
  • Casio QV-700
