SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to modify or ungroup an object on a Microsoft Visio page, nothing happens.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because some Visio shapes are protected at the Shape Sheet level and cannot be modified past a certain point unless the are unlocked from the Shape Sheet.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the value in the Shape Sheet to 0 (zero), or unlocked. To do this, follow these steps.

CAUTION: After you complete these steps, you will no longer be able to use Custom Properties and some functionality may be lost.

  1. Click the object that you want to modify.
  2. On the Window menu, click Show Shape Sheet (the Shape Sheet looks similar to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet).
  3. Under Protection, click the LockGroup cell, change the value to 0, and then close the Shape Sheet.NOTE: The object is now available for modification; if you want to ungroup the object, continue with step 4.

  4. On the Shape menu, click Grouping, and then click Ungroup.
  5. When the confirmation message appears, click OK.
  6. On the Format menu, click Protection, click None, and then click OK.
