The Wizard Does Not Display Attributes If the AVP Import File Contains Only One Record (305339)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Metadirectory Services 2.2 SP1

This article was previously published under Q305339

SYMPTOMS

If an Attribute Value Pair (AVP) input file contains only a single record, the Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS) XML and File Toolkit Wizard (version 1.0.1185.0) misinterprets the file type. The file is incorrectly detected as a delimited file instead of an AVP file. If you manually change the file type to the AVP file type, the wizard continues without errors. However, no data is displayed on the "Select Attributes" and "Import and Export Input File Attributes" screens, effectively disabling the management agent (MA).

The following sample input file demonstrates the problem:

CN: Kari Hensien
SN: Hensien
Givenname: Kari
Title: Office Manager
Address: 100 Front Street, Tallahassee, FL 00000
Telephone: 555-1234
Fax: 555-1235

CAUSE

This problem occurs because an error in the XML parser halts the parsing process before the appropriate routines can properly evaluate the input format.
