SYMPTOMS

When you run an uninstall process on any of the Encarta programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
Installer Stopped Prematurely.
When you click OK, you then receive the following error message:
Windows Installer
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.
When you click OK again, the uninstall process is rolled back, and the program is not removed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, run the uninstall process again. You will be prompted with a message stating that an earlier install was not complete. Click Yes to complete the uninstall process.
