SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Money, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Runtime Error! Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Msmoney.exe Abnormal program termination

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the installation of the System Pack was canceled. Additionally, this issue may occur if you did not let Microsoft Internet Explorer to install.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps for your version of Money.

Microsoft Money 2006 and Microsoft Money 2005

To upgrade to latest version of the Microsoft Data Access Components, follow these steps:
  1. Download and install the latest version of MDAC. To do this, visit the following MSDN Web site:
  2. Install Money.

Microsoft Money 2002, Money 2003, and Money 2004

Method 1: Reinstall the Microsoft Money System Pack

  1. Insert the Microsoft Money installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Hold down SHIFT to prevent the installation screen from appearing.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type D:\syspack.msi in the Open box. In this example, D:\ is the drive letter of your CD-ROM player.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Follow the prompts for the installation process.
If the previous steps do not help, go to the next section.

Method 2: Remove and Reinstall the Money System Pack

  1. In Microsoft Windows 98 or in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

    In Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows XP, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In Windows 98 or Windows Me, click Microsoft Money System Pack, and then click Add/Remove.

    In Windows 2000 or Windows XP, click Microsoft Money System Pack, and then click Remove.
  4. Follow the steps for the removal process.
  5. Repeat the steps in the "Reinstall Microsoft Money System Pack" section.

Method 3: Upgrade to the latest version of the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)

  1. Download and install the latest version of MDAC. To do this, visit the following MSDN Web site:
