"Error 1923; Service NfsRdr Could Not Be Installed" Error Message May Be Displayed (305183)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Add/Remove Programs tool to install either the Gateway for NFS or the Client for NFS components, you may receive the following error message:

Error 1923. Service "NfsRdr" (NfsRdr) could not be installed.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when you use the Add/Remove Programs tool to change the installed components of Windows Services for UNIX version 2.2. (It is not recommended to use this method to install or to remove the components.)

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the command-line MSI-based method to remove and install the components. (Its usage is outlined in the Help file.)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Windows Services for UNIX version 2.2 is an OEM-only version with a special installer. The package is installed by the OEM on network-attached storage devices before they are installed at the customer site.
