SUMMARY

Double-byte character sets (DBCS) are foreign language character sets that require more than one byte (8 bits) of information to express each character. Each character of a DBCS is encoded in exactly two bytes or 16 bits.

Windows Services for UNIX does not support DBCS encoding in group or host names.

MORE INFORMATION

Double-byte character sets are needed for languages such as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
