EES Does Not Appear Stopped When EES Is Stopped Using Component Services Snap-in (305021)

SYMPTOMS

When the Exchange Notifications (EES) component of Mobile Information Server is installed on an Exchange 2000 computer, if you are an administer, you can turn off the notifications by starting Mobile Information Server System Manager, right-clicking Event Source, and then clicking Stop. When you use this procedure to turn off notifications, the COM+ application that runs the EES component continues to run, but notifications are not sent. When you stop the EES using Mobile Information Server System Manager, the COM+ application should not appear to stop.

However, if you use the Component Services snap-in included with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server to stop EES, notifications stop, but the EES component still appears to be running when you view the service in Mobile Information Server System Manager.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, control notifications by using the Mobile Information Server System Manager.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
