OFFXPDEV: Microsoft Access 2002 Run-Time Package Does Not Install on a Computer Running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (305002)

SYMPTOMS

When you install a Microsoft Access 2002 run-time package on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer, the system update portion of the setup is installed, but you are not prompted to restart the computer. The remaining portion of the package setup fails silently, and therefore the setup is never completed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install Office XP Developer Service Pack 1 (SP-1) on your development computer. Then, repackage the application and redistribute it to users who are running Windows NT 4.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Office XP Developer. This problem was corrected in Office XP Developer SP-1.

When you install a run-time package on a Windows NT 4.0-based computer, you always have to restart the computer after the system update portion of the setup.

You will not be able to resolve this problem by restarting the computer and then starting the Setup program again.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Create a package with the sample database Northwind.mdb. Include Microsoft Access 2002 Run-Time.
  2. Deploy this package on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
Note that you are not prompted to restart the computer and that the run-time package installation is not completed.
