Password Protected Science Screen Saver May Cause Your Computer to Stop Responding (304984)

If you use the Science screen saver with password protection and you move your mouse or touch the keyboard, your computer may stop responding (hang) with hourglass mouse pointer. This problem occurs more frequently on the Chinese version of Windows 98 Second Edition.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because a Windows message is not properly handled while your computer attempts to display the Windows Screen Saver password dialog box.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use any of the following methods:
- Choose a different screen saver. To do this, right-click an empty area on your desktop, click Properties, click the Screen Saver tab, click a different screen saver in the list, and then click OK.
- Decrease the Colors option in Display Properties to 256 colors. To do this, right-click an empty area on your desktop, click Properties, click the Settings tab, click 256 Colors in the Colors box, and then click OK.
- Remove password protection from the Science screen saver. To do this, right-click an empty area on your desktop, click Properties, click the Screen Saver tab, click to clear the Password protected check box, and then click OK.
