Commerce Server 2000 or 2002 installation fails with error when you unregister Scrrun.dll (304965)

SYMPTOMS

If you follow the steps outlined in the Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 security checklist and unregister Scrrun.dll, when you attempt to install Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 or 2002, you may receive the following error:

Error" Internal error 2740 CA_tmpcopy.dll"

CAUSE

When you unregister Scrrun.dll, it disables the Dictionary Object and the File System Object, which must be active for Commerce Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the issue, you must re-register the Scrrun.dll file to be able to successfully perform the Commerce Server installation. To register the DLL, run the following command:

regsvr32 SCRRUN.DLL

When the Scrrun.dll file has been successfully registered, you can install Commerce Server 2000 or 2002.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
