Replication Does Not Complete and You Cannot Access Directory Objects (304922)

SYMPTOMS

Replication of directory information between domain controllers does not complete and you receive a replication error message. You also cannot access or delete the object by using a tool such as ADSI Editor.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if objects with the same security IDs (SIDs) exist in the directory database and one of the duplicate objects that uses the same SID is deleted. When two objects use the same SID and one of the objects is deleted by a user, the Security Account Manager (SAM) processes the delete request. If the delete request is not processed correctly, you cannot access a directory object if a deleted object with the same SID exists.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack Service Pack 3.
