The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition

This article was previously published under Q304855

SYMPTOMS

If you have an SMC1211TX network adapter installed, Windows XP may not correctly identify this adapter and may install the driver for a Realtek RTL8139(A/B/C)-based PCI Fast Ethernet network adapter. However, your SMC1211TX network adapter is installed and functions correctly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the chipset for the SMC1211TX network adapter is identical to the chipset for the Realtek RTL8139 network adapter, and both adapters use the same driver.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
