Windows Setup Detects an Installed Zip Drive as a Hard Disk (304776)

SYMPTOMS

If you have a Zip drive installed, Windows XP Setup may incorrectly detect the Zip drive as a hard disk and assign a drive letter to the Zip drive.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, disconnect the Zip drive, and then reinstall Windows XP.

If you are installing Windows XP as an upgrade over Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you can remove Windows XP, disconnect the Zip drive, and then perform the upgrade again.
