you receive a series of error messages that can include any of

fault in module User.exe at 0003:000055ref PowerPoint executed an invalid

CAUSE These error messages occur under Microsoft Windows
Millennium Edition (Me), because of a conflict between PowerPoint (or
Publisher) and the Trident CyberBlade XP (69) graphics controller. This
graphics controller is used on several Hewlett-Packard laptops. To
determine if your system uses this graphics controller, follow these steps:
- Right-click a blank area of your desktop, and then click Settings on the shortcut menu.
- On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
- Click the Adapter tab.
- Verify whether the adapter is Trident CyberBlade XP (69).
RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, obtain an updated video driver from
Trident Cyberblade. To download the appropriate video driver for your notebook,
visit one of the following Web sites: Temporary Workarounds To temporarily work around this problem, use any of the following
methods. Method 1: Run Windows Me in VGA Mode Use the System Configuration utility to set the display driver in
Windows to use VGA resolution and color settings. To do this, follow these
steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Configuration.
- Click Advanced.
- Click to select VGA 640x480x16.
- Quit the System Configuation utility.
- Restart Windows.
Method 2: Use a Version of PowerPoint Earlier Than PowerPoint 2002 Because this behavior does not occur with earlier versions of
PowerPoint, use Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or earlier until a solution is
available. Method 3: Use a Different Computer Because this problem only occurs with a few models of computers,
use a different model of computer that does not use the Trident CyberBlade XP
(69) graphics controller.
