XCCC: Cannot Respond to a Meeting Request with an IMAP Client If You Use UPN Logon Format (304510)

SYMPTOMS

If a client that uses the Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4rev1 (IMAP4) protocol logs on to an Exchange 2000 Server computer by using a UPN format (user@company.com), the client may not be able to respond to a meeting request that another user sends.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

To work around this problem, either log on to the Exchange 2000 server by using a standard logon format (domain\user) or use an alternate mail protocol, such as Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3).
