How to Configure Packet Filtering for pcAnywhere Hosted on ISA Server 2000 (304350)

SUMMARY

This article describes how to configure packet filtering for Symantec Corporation pcAnywhere version 9.0 or later that is hosted on Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000. For pcAnywhere to function properly, you need the following two filter applications to configure packet filtering:
  • TCP 5631
  • UDP 5632
NOTE: This article describes how to publish pcAnywhere only if pcAnywhere is installed on the computer that is running ISA Server. If pcAnywhere is installed on a client computer behind ISA Server, use the procedure that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

To configure packet filtering for pcAnywhere, use the following procedures.

Step 1: Configure the TCP 5631 Filter

  1. Click Start, click Programs, click Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Management.
  2. Click to expand Server, click to expand Arrays, click to expand the entry for the computer that is running ISA Server, and then click to expand Access Policy.
  3. Right-click IP packet filters, click New, and then click Filter.
  4. In the Packet filter box, type pcanywhere tcp for the first filter name, and then click Next.
  5. Click Allow packet transmission, and then click Next.
  6. Click Custom.
  7. Configure the following filter settings, and then click Next:
    • Click TCP in the IP Protocol box.
    • Click Inbound in the Direction box.
    • Click Fixed in the Local Port box, and then type 5631 in the Port Number box.
    • Confirm that All Ports is selected in the Remote Port box (this setting is the default setting).
  8. Confirm that the Default IP addresses for each external interface on the ISA Server computer setting is selected (this setting is the default setting), and then click Next.
  9. Confirm that the All remote computers setting is selected (this setting is the default setting), and then click Next.
  10. Click Finish.

Step 2: Configure the UDP 5632 Filter

  1. Right-click IP packet filters, click New, and then click Filter.
  2. In the Packet filter box, type pcanywhere udp for the second filter name, and then click Next.
  3. Click Allow packet transmission, and then click Next.
  4. Click Custom.
  5. Configure the following filter settings, and then click Next:
    • Click UDP in the IP Protocol box.
    • Click Receive send in the Direction box.
    • Click Fixed in the Local Port box, and then type 5632 in the Port Number box.
    • Confirm that All Ports is selected in the Remote Port box (this setting is the default setting).
  6. Confirm that the Default IP addresses for each external interface on the ISA Server computer setting is selected (this setting is the default setting), and then click Next.
  7. Confirm that the All remote computers setting is selected (this setting is the default setting), and then click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
