  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q304326

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Active Directory Installation Wizard to remove Active Directory from a domain controller, the full Domain Name System (DNS) name of the server does not change after Active Directory is removed.

CAUSE

The Active Directory Installation Wizard does not change the full DNS name of the server after Active Directory is removed because the server may have services that client computers must access by using the server's full DNS host name.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
