Message Queuing may stop responding if the file storage is NTFS-compressed (304273)

SYMPTOMS

While you are using the Microsoft Message Queuing service, you may receive an error message on a blue screen and the Message Queuing server may stop responding if the Message Queuing file storage is NTFS-compressed.

CAUSE

If an application is modifying data through mapped sections that are backed by compressed files, the application can produce corrupted pages faster than the mapped writer can delete them.

RESOLUTION

There is no fix for this NTFS issue; to work around this behavior, do not use NTFS compression:
  • Directly on the MSMQ\storage folder.

    -or-
  • On drives in which Message Queuing stores its messages.

STATUS

A design change in NTFS compression would be required to change this behavior.
