You receive an "ActiveX Component Can't Create Object" error message when you open switchboard (304173)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Switchboard Manager to try to create a new Switchboard or when you open an existing Switchboard in a Microsoft Access database, you receive the following error message:
Run-time error '429':
ActiveX component can't create object.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the installed version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is not compatible with the current installation of Access.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must reinstall MDAC. To do so, use either of the following methods:


  • Download the latest version of MDAC from the following Microsoft Web site:http://www.microsoft.com/data

    -or-

  • Download Microsoft Component Checker, and then troubleshoot your current configuration by removing and then reinstalling your current version of MDAC. You can download the MDAC Component Checker from the following Microsoft Web site:http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm#CCinfo
