  • Microsoft Outlook 2000, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows 98
    • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
    • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q304087

SYMPTOMS

If you view a Contact distribution list in Outlook 2000 running on Windows 98, some of the members in the Contact distribution list display an e-mail address that is the same as the member's name with the first two characters missing.

The following is an example of how the e-mail address appears:
==============================
Name                   E-Mail
==============================
User1                  er1
User2                  er2
==============================

You may receive a Non-Delivery Report (NDR) if you try to submit an e-mail message to a Contact distribution list that experiences this problem.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook 2002 has Unicode support (on all Microsoft Windows platforms) for Contact distribution lists. But when Outlook 2000 is running on Windows 98, it does not support Unicode.
