CSRSS May Stop Responding When the Text Mode Console Is Freed (304001)

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a computer that is running Windows NT 4.0, your computer and the Text-mode console may stop responding (hang). You can use the pointer, but the graphical user interface (GUI) may not respond. Note that most of the network-related services may continue to work correctly.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
