MSDSS Cannot Authenticate with Novell Directory Services (303954)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP2
This article was previously published under Q303954 SYMPTOMS
When you are creating a session between Active Directory and Novell Directory Services (NDS), you may receive the following error message after you select the NDS container and then type the credentials:
Windows cannot authenticate to NDS://Treename/O=organization/OU=organizational unit name with the supplied credentials: The network path was not found.
CAUSE
This error message occurs if you do not provide NDS the whole naming context of the supervisor account. NDS must have the whole naming context to permit authentication.
RESOLUTION
In Microsoft Directory Synchronization Services (MSDSS), type the full NDS naming context in the credentials after you select the NDS container. For example:
Organizational unit = TX, O = MS, Treename = EAC
In this example, the full NDS user name is: administrator.tx.ms.
Notes:
- You do not have to include the tree name in the user's context.
- The user account that you supply must have access to the root of the tree (Supervisor permissions).
The following steps demonstrate how to create a one-way session by using the sample information from earlier in this article:
- In the MSDSS Task screen, click Create New Session.
- After the Welcome screen, click One-way session.
- click the target Active Directory organizational unit with which you want to synchronize.
- In the "NDS Container and password" screen, click the NDS container.
- In the User Name box, type the whole naming context under. In this example, type administrator.tx.ms.
