SYMPTOMS

When you add records to a zone, Dr. Watson reports an access violation exception (0xc0000005) in Dns.exe.

CAUSE

The access violation exception occurs when the record that you are trying to add also exists in the DNS server's cache. The access violation exception occurs during the attempt to clean out this entry from the cache.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
