The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q303671

SYMPTOMS

If you click the Keep Personal Address in option in a PAB (Personal Address Book) file in Outlook 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) and you have the search order set to search in the PAB first, Outlook 2000 SR-1 cannot find the recipient digital certificate and the following error message may occur when you send a digitally encrypted message:
Microsoft Outlook had problems encrypting the message because the following recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or unsupported encryption capabilities.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because the search process erroneously stopped searching after it querried the PAB, instead of continuing the search in the Contacts folder.
