SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visio, when you attempt to map shapes for several different devices in your network diagram, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Visio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The information you were working on might be lost. Microsoft Visio can try to recover it for you.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature similar to the following:

AppName: visio.exe AppVer: 10.0.525.4 ModName: mfc42.dll
ModVer: 6.0.8665.0 Offset: 000019c6

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the version of the Data Access Objects 3.60 (DAO) file installed on your computer, dao360.dll, is earlier than 3.60.3714.5.

RESOLUTION

This problem has been fixed in the latest edition of the Jet Service Pack. Install the service pack to update the dao360.dll file on your computer to version 3.60.3714.5 or later.

Use the Map Shapes command when you want to change the shapes that represent device or network objects on your network diagram. The AutoDiscovery and Layout solution provides a default set of network device shapes, and you can customize them to use the specific shapes that you want. You can change the shape for an entire group of devices, or you can assign a shape to a single device.
