The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
- Microsoft Visio Network Central
- Microsoft Visio Enterprise Network Tools
This article was previously published under Q303599 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Visio, when you attempt to update your network diagram and double-click a device in the Guided Update window, the callout that lists the action options for the device that you selected is displayed as disproportionately large in relation to the network diagram. You cannot view, select, or apply the actions listed in the yellow callout because the action options and the Apply button are displayed off the drawing page.
CAUSE
This issue occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
- The network diagram was created in Microsoft Visio Enterprise 2000.
- You open the diagram in Microsoft Visio 2002.
- You run the Guided Update feature in Visio 2002.
- You double-click a device in the Guided Update window to view, select, and apply a network change to your network diagram.
This issue occurs because there are differences in the ways that Visio 2000 and Visio 2002 handle the drawing scales of network diagrams. As a result, when you open a Visio Enterprise 2000 network diagram in Visio 2002, and then double-click a device in the Guided Update window to select and apply changes to your diagram, the yellow callouts that list the available action options are displayed as larger than expected on your drawing page.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use the method appropriate to your situation:
- Use the Guided Update feature in Visio Enterprise 2000
to update your network diagram. For additional information about how to update your network diagram in Visio 2002 Enterprise, click the article number below

- Use Visio 2002 to perform a discovery of your network, and create a new network diagram. You can then run the Guided Update feature in Visio 2002 if you want to later update your network diagram.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Use the Guided Update feature when you want to view network changes, and incorporate them into your network diagrams. After you run Guided Update, the Guided Update window displays a list of components on your network that have changed since the last time you performed a discovery. You can apply the changes that you want to your network diagram, or save the changes to a file and apply the changes at another time.
For more information about the Guided Update feature in Microsoft Visio, type Guided Update in the Ask a question box or the Answer Wizard, and then press ENTER to view the topics.
